What is Evernote and How Can it Help a Person Writing a Book?

Recently, I heard about this program called Evernote and I have to admit I was a little skeptical about a program that I could be on for free that was going to help keep me organized and on task.  As a self-published author of many books, I decided to check this program out because I am always looking for ways to help me with getting my writing done the most efficient way possible.

In my last blog article, I talked about how a person could get organized while writing a book with a full-time job by using lists.  So I thought about Evernote because of its great ability at allowing a person to keep notes of everything they need to remember.  The other great thing about this program is that it can be on your laptop/desktop, tablet, or your phone.  Yes, Evernote has an app so you can carry your notes and lists wherever you might need them.

The following video will explain the basics of what Evernote can do.This person gives you the basics of how she uses Evernote for her business.

If this interests you here is another video telling you how to sign up for this program:

The other great thing about this program is that many YouTubers have created instructional videos out on youtube that you can watch at your convenience.  Personally, I just use the create Notebook and create Notes part of this program.  I know there are a lot more features to Evernote, but as a writer, I have found so far that these two features work pretty great for me.

Here is another video showing how authors can use this program to outline their book with.  If you read my other blog entry about how to outline your book then you know that many of the suggestions were to use index cards.  Well, I have found that Evernote helps clear up the clutter of using index cards by having all of your outline notes online through this program.

Lastly, I found another great video talking about how this person created some great, already-made templates that you can use on Evernote to make your life more simplified.

I hope you will check out this program because so far I have found it to be extremely helpful to me and keeping my writing, and my life more organized.

In my next blog entry, I am going to discuss whether or not an author needs a website?  This has been a highly debatable subject from what I have researched.

     So stay tuned!
